Last Wednesday ( sorry for the delay ) saw sister design duo Watson x Watson unveil their new resort 2014 collection. Sydney celebrities, Fashion magazine editors and the “IT” crowd gathered for an cocktail style breakfast at Neild Avenue, in Rushcutters Bay. The collection inspired by the jungles of South America and the pieces featured orchid and python skin prints and styled with cotton separates. As you all know I am a huge fan of Watson x Watson, I’ve know the girls for many years and am always eager to see what they come up with. Needless to say I was not let down (I want everything).
I chatted with Liberty Watson and Somer Watson of WXW...
Who is the WxW Girl?
The Watson x Watson girl is the international cool girl. She's well travelled, we'll read has a modern and clean style and loves great quality and well made clothing. She is effortlessly cool and has her very own easy sense of style.
Tell us a little about the WxW success story?
With over 20 years experience in fashion between the two of us we knew we had to do our own thing eventually. I was holidaying in Positano and called Somer just saying 'Are you in?' She didn't even have to check what the question was regarding she just said yes and two days later we met in Paris and wrote a very casual business plan over macaroons and Champagne at Lauderee.
The brand experienced almost overnight success. Landing 70 of Australia's best fashion boutiques in it's first season. We've since had two Mercedes Benz fashion week shows and opened a flagship store in Paddington on William St.
Tell us about the new resort collection?
Our new summer resort collection is still very modern & clean in it's styling but this year our girl took a trip through the Brazilian jungle. Our two prints were our python print and our exotic orchid print. Both feminine and modern. We've learnt our customers come to us for those special everyday pieces. The shorts you'll wear for 5 years, that summer dress you always feel like throwing on, that structured dress that's perfect for date night or a wedding or your birthday. Versatility is always an important one for us. Quality Australian made product that will be the staples and special pieces in a woman's wardrobe.
What inspired WXW?
We are inspired by so many different things. Travel, friends, street style, magazines, fashion blogs a mix of everything is good. We also think about what's missing in the market. That beautiful wool coat, that sexy structured dress you can't find anywhere, that simple white leather cami you'll wear with everything. The fun thing about having a fashion label is that if you can't find it while shopping you can create it!
